Science Technician
We are seeking a reliable, organised, and proactive Science Technician to join a welcoming and well-resourced Academy in Darwen. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity to support the Science Department by preparing practical lessons, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring a safe and effective learning environment for both staff and students.
This role is ideal for an experienced Science Technician or someone with relevant laboratory or scientific experience looking to work within a school setting.

Science Technician role requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Science Technician or within a laboratory environment is desirable
- Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures
- Experience preparing practical equipment and materials for science lessons
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive and flexible approach to work
- Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining confidentiality
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
The successful Science Technician will:
- Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment and materials for practical Science lessons
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure resources are clean, organised, and ready for use
- Monitor and manage stock levels, ordering equipment and chemicals when required
- Ensure laboratories comply with health and safety regulations, including the safe storage and disposal of chemicals
- Provide technical support to teaching staff during practical lessons where required
- Carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs to laboratory equipment
- Keep accurate records of equipment, stock, and safety checks
- Work closely with the Head of Science and teaching staff to support the delivery of an engaging Science curriculum
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
